Costa Mesa — Hurley’s Phantom P120 boardshorts won ‘Boardshort of the Year’ at the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) Image Awards this past weekend in San Jose del Cabo, praising its reputation as the top performance surf trunk on the market.
“It’s such an honor to be recognized for this award again,” says Hurley Design Director Ryan Hurley. “The team places so much effort into the design of the Phantom –in materials development, construction techniques and athlete wear testing. It’s satisfying to see all the hard work recognized.”
The cornerstone of Hurley’s “True Performance” mantra, the Phantom P120 relied much of its success on lightweight, water resistant and 120-percent stretch fabric. The “Phantom Fabric” was first emploied by Nike European swimmers at the 2004 Athens Olympics. The Hurley design team worked closely with Nike to deliver the Phantom three years later.
The Phantom won its first “Boardshort of the Year” award in 2008 and followed that up this past weekend with its second consecutive “best boardshort” title. More than 200 key surf retailers and SIMA members balloted in the Image Awards.
Always looking to push innovation to new peeks, Hurley is ready to release the next generation of board short on November 27 called the Phantom with Nike FlyWire.
